Asus T101MT passes through FCC, expected Q2 2010, specs inside

We have been waiting on the launch of the ASUS Eee PC T101H or ASUS Eee PC T101MT, or 10.1″ model of the Asus tablet for over a year now. For many potential customers, the T91 with its 8.9″ screen was simply too small to justify its price. With the passing of the  T101MT through the FCC, all rumors and gossip can come to an end. Before a new electronics product launches, it has to be checked for consumer safety by the FCC. Most products pass without any hardship and therefore you can usually expect a product to launch soon after the FCC has seen it. The current expectations in the blogosphere and around industry analysts is that the T101MT will be shown at the Consumer Electronics Show in January 2010 and will hit stores in Q2 of 2010.

Asus seems to single-handedy be creating a whole new product segment. Like they did by being one of the first producing the early netbooks and starting a trend for other manufacturers like Acer, HP and Dell to follow. Now they are doing it again with their tablet netbooks T91T101H. They are not even out yet, but already other manufacturers are inspired to jump in.

The demand for a small compact 8″ to 11″ swivelling netbook with a touchscreen is expected to be huge. It bridges the the gap between touch phones like the iPhoneHTC Touch and XPeria and netbooks/laptops without any touch functionality. Especially with costs of touchscreens decreasing rapidly (just look at the modded netbooks with $100 touchscreens already), manufacturers are enthusiastic to go for it.

Here’s two of the first tablet netbooks other than Asus’s that will be available soon, they are by Chinese manufacturer Fuyijama (related to Fuji?):

Today AsusTablet.com will be looking at the hands-on reviews for the Asus Eee PC T91 tablet netbook.

There is a new review of a pre-production model of the T91 online right now.

Stuff.tv tells us the T91 features a Atom Z520 processor, 160GB hard drive, 1GB RAM memory and will be shipped with Windows XP Home. In addition, the Digital TV tuner and GPS receiver will be optional and not included in every package, as stated before.

The T91 will feature a stylus that can be slided in to use with the touch screen. The T91 touch screen will not feature multi-touch or feedback.

Stuff further mentions the T91′s pros are its very low weight, low footprint, its  swivelling touch screen and its specifications. The T91′s negative aspects are that it may feel gimmicky and that the price is out of range of most netbooks.

Nothing we haven’t heard before.
