Multi-touch tablet T91MT by ASUS is shipping now

A few months ago we were already reporting that in addition to the T101MT, we expected a multi-touch version of the Asus Eee PC T91 to be produced soon. Problems with the high demand for the T91 created a great shortage in inventory in the last few months. ASUS has upped its production and stocks seem to have been re-supplied now at Amazon. A week ago, pre-ordering started and now finally the T91MT has arrived along with the new batch of T91’s. The ASUS Eee PC T91MT runs Windows 7, which is almost completely designed for touch-screen devices. Like its sibling the T91, it holds a 1.33 Ghz Intel Atom Z520 processor with 1GB of RAM. For more, read the T91MT specifications. Unlike some reports in the blogosphere, the T91MT does NOT have a pressure sensitive screen but does have palm rejection. Palm rejections means the device does not accept the touch of your handpalm as a touch input but it does accept the stylus and your seperate fingers as input. This makes it possible to use the T91MT as a notepad.

Multi touch ASUS Eee PC T91MT and T101P leaked

Update: ASUS Eee PC T91MT was confirmed a few weeks ago and is now up for purchase on Amazon.

An industry insider has just leaked the roadmap for the upcoming line-up of ASUS Eee PC products for the next year. Apart from several new Eee PCs, it contains news on the future of the ASUS Eee PC T91.

Apparently ASUS has not decided to scrap the T91 altogether but instead follow it up with a multi-touch version, called the T91MT (not the T91A as reported before). It sports a 32Gb SSD (solid state drive) and its price will be at $549 or around EUR 399. Additionally, the roadmap also contains the Asus Eee PC T101P. This is the first time we hear it being called P instead of H. Does the P stand for the Intel PineTrail spec? We’ll hear later. The T101P will be released in 2010. Under the hood, it will sport a standard Atom N450 processor, Pine Trail and running Windows 7. That sounds like a winner to us! [Via Netbooked]

ASUS Eee PC T101H release date in September 2009 at the earliest

ASUS will be releasing their 10.1″ netbook touchscreen in September 2009 at the earliest according to industry sources cited by DigiTimes. The release date is more than two months later than previously announced.

The follow up to the just released smaller illustrious Eee PC T91 will hold an Intel Atom Z520 processor running at 1.33 GHz, 1Gb of DDR2 RAM memory and a 16Gb SSD storage under the hood.

Possible extras are a 16Gb memory card and the potential for a GPS, 3G and Digital TV tuner, however this is not confirmed yet by ASUS officially.

Slashgear reports that ASUS is using the sales of the Eee PC T91 as a prediction for the success of the T101H. The T91 was met with some strong criticism but overall it was received quite well.

It could be a good step for ASUS to change the specifications of the T101H based on the problems with the T91. It is reported to sometimes respond slowly and the touch interface does not work well with the included standard version of Windows XP. However, as Windows 7 will be released at the end of this year, they might be able to fix this in one shot. Just include a faster processor and it’s a win for ASUS.

On Wednesday, an anonymous source confirmed to Asus Tablet the final specifications of the Asus Eee PC T101H netbook tablet. It is the sister tablet to the ASUS Eee PC T91 (whose models have been confirmed on Tuesday) and the biggest difference between the two is the size. The T101H will appeal to more advanced users as it sports a 10.1″ screen as opposed to the T91’s 9″ screen. It is not clear if the T101H will have the same amount of variations as the T91 but we can only hope, or should we? The specifications right now show the T101H to have the same specs as the most upscale models of the T91, the ASUS Eee pC T91, the ASUS Eee pC T91go and the ASUS Eee pC T91A (the unknown but possible T91Ago) It holds a full GPS chip, 3G abilities and a multi-touch interface. To make you even more exited, here’s a hands-on video with the T101H: According to ASUS UK, the T101H is expected in the end of August 2009, or early September 2009. Specifications for the T101H

Is this the netbook tablet we’ve actually all been waiting for? Should we consider the T91 as just a sample version of the real thing? Tell us which tablet netbook you would now choose, in the comments. Update: ASUS UK confirmed to us the anonymous source is not correct about this information, as the specifications are not even known by them.

Eee PC T91 delayed until late July 2009, says Asus UK Asus UK has told Netbook Choice that the Asus Eee PC T91 is delayed again until “late July 2009″: “Whilst still no specific date is being committed too, we were assured that this “late July” timeline was now concrete and they envisaged no more slips. The reason for the delay was being attributed to nailing down the interface and making sure they were 100 percent happy with it before shipping. As this is their first touchscreen net tablet, they cannot afford the negative reaction on an unfinished product. Asus also confirmed that the Eee PC T101 has slipped down the priority list although it’s still on the company’s roadmap.”

An exclusive video showing a demo of the final graphical user interface of the Asus Eee PC T91 and T101H netbook tablet, we have today. Some features it shows include a touch-sensitive task switcher to move between programs by simply dragging or making hand gestures on the screen from left to right. Also a central menu button on the bottom of the screen is shown, touching this button opens up an array of most used applications such as a calendar, Internet Explorer or your notes, this menu is customizable. A visual widget interface is also included in the Asus tablet , it enables you to add widgets to your screen to use with just your fingers on the touch screen. Asus has also brought us a top menu bar with which we can quickly change settings on the tablet netbook. Very essential is the on-screen keyboard. It is large enough to be used with fingers and makes it possible to never switch back to the real keyboard agian! A touch-sensitive visual photo application is included as well, this looks particularly interesting. It enables users to interact with their photos as if they were lying on a table. Juggling them around or sorting them in a photobook which can be then viewed by moving the pages over. It reminds us of Microsoft Surface. Next is the notes application, it enables users to write notes with either the included stylus or their fingers, our expectation was that it would look pixely and low-quality but it actually looks like real handwriting. Very impressive to say the least and surprisingly smooth for a tablet PC that is in fact a netbook with limited specifications.

The number of different Asus Eee PC netbooks is staggering. With complex model numbers it becomes confusing for customers and makes it difficult to choose one. Therefore Asus has decided that it will phase out all of its netbook models except for the Seashell 1008HA, the Seashell 1005HA and the T91 (and T91GO) and T101H tablet netbooks. The best-selling 1000HE (known for its 10-hour battery life) will be phased out first and replaced by the 1005HA. It is a dramatic step for Asus to phase out one of its best-selling models, apparently they have a strategy made they want to follow now. What that strategy is, we can only guess.

Asus seems to single-handedy be creating a whole new product segment. Like they did by being one of the first producing the early netbooks and starting a trend for other manufacturers like Acer, HP and Dell to follow. Now they are doing it again with their tablet netbooks T91T101H. They are not even out yet, but already other manufacturers are inspired to jump in. The demand for a small compact 8″ to 11″ swivelling netbook with a touchscreen is expected to be huge. It bridges the the gap between touch phones like the iPhoneHTC Touch and XPeria and netbooks/laptops without any touch functionality. Especially with costs of touchscreens decreasing rapidly (just look at the modded netbooks with $100 touchscreens already), manufacturers are enthusiastic to go for it. Here’s two of the first tablet netbooks other than Asus’s that will be available soon, they are by Chinese manufacturer Fuyijama (related to Fuji?):
