On Wednesday, an anonymous source confirmed to Asus Tablet the final specifications of the Asus Eee PC T101H netbook tablet. It is the sister tablet to the ASUS Eee PC T91 (whose models have been confirmed on Tuesday) and the biggest difference between the two is the size.

The T101H will appeal to more advanced users as it sports a 10.1″ screen as opposed to the T91′s 9″ screen. It is not clear if the T101H will have the same amount of variations as the T91 but we can only hope, or should we? The specifications right now show the T101H to have the same specs as the most upscale models of the T91, the ASUS Eee pC T91, the ASUS Eee pC T91go and the ASUS Eee pC T91A (the unknown but possible T91Ago)

It holds a full GPS chip, 3G abilities and a multi-touch interface. To make you even more exited, here’s a hands-on video with the T101H:

According to ASUS UK, the T101H is expected in the end of August 2009, or early September 2009.

An anonymous source told AsusTablet.com that Asus will release three versions of the Asus Eee PC T91. We already knew about the T91GO which enables 3G, GPS and a digital TV features. In addition to the standard T91 (with a single-touch screen) and T91GO (or T91go), there will be the T91A. This model will be the only one to hold a multi-touch screen. It is not clear if this last version will or will not include the options of the T91go too or if there will be a fourth model (T91Ago), which includes both a multi-touch screen and 3G, GPS and a TV tuner.

Eee PC T91 delayed until late July 2009, says Asus UK

Asus UK has told Netbook Choice that the Asus Eee PC T91 is delayed again until “late July 2009″:

“Whilst still no specific date is being committed too, we were assured that this “late July” timeline was now concrete and they envisaged no more slips. The reason for the delay was being attributed to nailing down the interface and making sure they were 100 percent happy with it before shipping. As this is their first touchscreen net tablet, they cannot afford the negative reaction on an unfinished product.

Asus also confirmed that the Eee PC T101 has slipped down the priority list although it’s still on the company’s roadmap.”

Asus Eee PC T91 touchscreen tablet swivel it!

The T91 asks you to swivel on it.

There are so many different Asus Eee PC netbooks currently on the market that it’s hard to believe a week goes by without a new one being launched. The Eee PC T91 is the latest incarnation, and is a netbook with a difference – a touchscreen display.

The T91 isn’t the first to feature a touchscreen panel – these are also available on products such as the child-friendly Zoostorm FizzBook Spin. It is the first from a mainstream manufacturer though, and turns the Eee PC into a more usable proposition.

At 8.9 inches, it’s closer in size to the original batch of netbooks – such as the Eee PC 701. The screen retains similar usability to larger 10-inch rivals by virtue of the same 1024 x 600 pixel resolution. There’s still not enough space onscreen to fit an entire website without scrolling, but it looks a lot sharper on a panel of this size. Annoyingly, it’s also a glossy panel, which can be difficult to see when in sunlight and covered in prints.

The touchscreen is responsive to both finger touches and a stylus, and it offers an alternative way of navigating the Windows XP operating system. Asus also bundles its Touch Dock software, which brings with it a host of finger-friendly applications, and also increases the size of some of the menu bars.

The biggest difference this makes is the ability to easily close applications. Where it’s near-impossible for those with larger fingers when using the Standard OS, switch on the Asus software and much larger close buttons make it easy for those with big digits. Among other things, there’s also a memo-making app built-in, making it easy to scribble notes to yourself, which can then be transferred onto the desktop in the form of post-its.

The T91′s design itself is neat enough, if a little underwhelming. As with most other manufuacturers, glossy plastics are the order of the day, which look great right up until the point it’s covered in fingerprints and grime. The screen is hinged in the centre, and swings round 180 degrees, before folding flat for tablet use.

The keyboard is smaller than most netbooks currently on sale, and a downside of the 8.9-inch form factor. This means it takes time to get accustomed to the interface, the tiny keys and cramped layout, but once you do it’s easily possible to strike up a quick typing speed.

The touchpad is equally small, but is responsive and also supports gesture support. It doesn’t add a great deal, but the ability to pinch your fingers to zoom – as with Apple’s iPhone – remains a neat touch, especially considering the small screen.

As with virtually all other netbooks, an Intel Atom chip provides processing power, in this case the Atom Z520 which is also found in Sony’s miniscule VAIO P-series. Running at 1.33GHz, and backed by 1024MB of memory, performance is OK – it’s no worse than any other netbook, but it’s still a device for basic tasks only.

Things are thankfully speeded up slightly by the use of solid state memory, although at 16GB those with large need media collections will need to either get an external drive or look elsewhere. Battery life is also aided by the SSD, and lasts for nearly six hours between charges. It’ll need to – as it’s a sealed unit, and you won’t be able to swap it for a new one.

Features include two USB ports – one on each side of the chassis, and a 4-in-1 memory card reader, but there’s not a lot else here. Bluetooth is provided, making it easy to sync with your mobile phone, but the T91′s Wi-Fi adapter is limited to 802.11g speeds.

Whether the touchscreen functionality has a lot to offer remains purely down to your needs, but the Eee PC T91 remains a highly portable netbook either way.

We liked the touch software, and the T91′s tiny size means holding it with one hand when writing with the stylus is no problem at all. Add to this a decent battery life, and many users will be able to overlook the cramped keyboard.

An anonymous tipster just sent us these photos of a supposedly first batch of ASUS Eee PC T91 models shipped to the electronics store Currys in the United Kingdom.

On Friday, AsusTablet.net was told by an anonymous ASUS insider that the model had been delayed in shipment by logistical problems, being not too specific, but that it would hit retail stores this Monday, this might be true as we see from these photos just sent in.

The photos show the outside of a shipping box with a transit sheet that notes ASUS Computers International GmbH in Germany, where ASUS has its distribution hub for Western Europe. The shipment is destined for Currys Digital in Hertfordshire, UK, where Currys distribution headquarters is located. It all seems to make sense. The date stamp shows today, Sunday 21 June 2009. Does this mean the T91 will be sold tomorrow at Currys? The shipment also seems to have passed through Amsterdam during airmail reading from the AMS on the DHL sticker. Will this mean the T91 will also be sold in stores in the Netherlands this week? We hope so.

What is interesting from the photos is that Currys requested 260 units but received only 193. Is ASUS experiencing a shortage in units or problems in production of the T91, which does require new types of production processes (even for ASUS) as it is its first touchscreen netbook.

Eee PC T91 delayed

An anonymous ASUS insider told AsusTablet.com that the Eee PC T91 is still shipping but is delayed in distribution to the retail channels due to a “logistical mishap” in distribution. The problem is reportedly solved now and the device can be expected in stores from next Monday, the 22nd of June.

Reports last week in news channels all around the world mentioned that the T91 would start shipping this week but it still not here. The reasons are now becoming clear.

It is one of the many delays the T91 has experienced. This is interesting as other ASUS Eee PC devices have never been delayed as much as this model. This makes us question if there are structural concerns with the Eee PC T91. Is ASUS experiencing problems with the model and delaying it purposely to resolve these before retail availability? We might never know…
